Steel ball-bearing rollers
Louder, but tolerant of a slightly misaligned hinge and a sensible match for heavy or older doors where the hinges are not being replaced.

Black plastic rollers are not automatically junk. Nylon is what nearly every manufacturer uses, and a light door on bearingless nylon can be fine. We recommend a replacement when the rollers are worn or when you want a quieter door, and tell you when neither is true.
